The unlikely triumph of Unikko
Armi Ratia, Marimekko’s founder, believed the true essence of a flower couldn’t be captured in print. That’s why floral prints were excluded from Marimekko collections. Maija Isola designed Unikko to be an abstraction of a flower rather than a photorealistic rendition. It emerged as part of a broader series of floral abstractions. Today, Unikko stands as a powerful emblem of joy and creativity, seamlessly integrated into Marimekko's design identity.Maija proved there's always room for creativity that spreads joy.
